The Wagon Circle is a political action and community service group based in north san diego county.
we believe positive change begins with POSITIVE action, persistence and supporting and protecting marginalized groups within our community.
We firmly believe in peaceful protest and do not utilize or condone hate speech, racist language, or violence in any shape or form. When we are exercising our First Ammendment Rights we do not and will not engage with violent or anti-resistance supporters or protestors in any way.
I signed up to support our refugee family because, like many of you, I believe that those who have freedom and means have a moral obligation to assist those who do not. Every week that I go down to City Heights to visit our family I am reminded of how privileged I am and of the bubble that I live in. Resettling over here is such a complicated and difficult journey for these Syrian families and our assistance really makes a difference to the Alshaar family.
A typical visit with our family is usually 5 or 6 hours and we are down there every Tuesday and Thursday with more and more WC members joining us each week. Aside from assisting with the overwhelming financial support that they need we never know what other kind of needs will arise when we visit. This past Tuesday we spent time on the phone with Rady's assisting with scheduling a doctor's appointment and arranging for an interpreter. Then we took the three children to swimming lessons. They love to get a break from the sweltering heat of the city and they are becoming really competent swimmers. After swimming we took the children back to the grandparents house for a visit with them. It was lucky that we made this visit because the grandfather was not prepared for a scheduled eye surgery that he is having this week. He was comforted when WC member Chris Z (who is a nurse) was able to guide him through his pre op instructions.
They are so grateful for our assistance and our friendship and I feel blessed that I get to be a part of this family. I was away on vacation for two weeks and I was greeted with such enthusiasm and love when I arrived this week. The family gathered around and wanted to see my vacation photos and know how my extended family was doing. A big thank you to all of you who make it possible for me to be a part of this and for making such a difference.
In the last 100 days we have supported Planned Parenthood, supported our youth, supported our LGBTQ community, planned and organized political events and trainings, marched and rallied for immigrants and women, made thousands of phone calls to our local and state representatives, brought down damaging legislation for health care, supported immigration rights and refugees and more.
When one cannot do more, the collective does.
Where one cannot think, the collective moves forward.
Where one cannot find a way, the collective guides.

ACLU PEOPLE POWER - FREEDOM CITIES COLLECTIVE ACTION
We are asking that the Encinitas city council hold a panel with the local sheriff's department at their next (or future) meeting to discuss how they plan to respond to immigration issues.
If we are serious about protecting our immigrant neighbors, family and friends we must keep support and pressure on our local law enforcement and municipal leaders to be vocal about their stance on how they work with ICE and hold them accountable on the ACLU's 9 "model" state and local law enforcement policies and rules.
Please click below for a list of emails for our local City Council Representatives.
Please check our calendar for upcoming events and actions. Because we are a group dedicated to continuing action we ask for a commitment to participating in a level of community outreach and activity that you feel comfortable with. There are many options to choose from. Stay active! Stay informed! Stay committed to resistance!
